Trail Programs

New for 2023

The NWHA Trail program has been rebranded! The NWHA presents our new Trail Riders Award Program.

Moving forward, trail log miles will be accumulated December 1, 2022 - November 30, 2023. Members that were previously accumulating hours under the TRIP program can convert their logs to miles by using 3 miles for every 1 hour ridden.

If you are interested in trail riding only, a discounted NWHA Trail Membership is available below. Although the Trail membership option does not include voting rights, trail members can enjoy earning double-miles on NWHA sanctioned trail rides, and cool year-end prizes!

For more information, scroll down to view the TRAP SOP, logs, and sanctioning forms for trail ride hosts.

***Full NWHA members are also eligible to participate in TRAP for no additional fee***

Trail Riders Award Program

Would you rather spend a day on the trails?  Then TRAP may be for you! TRAP is open to all NWHA members and any gaited horse owned by a member of NWHA.  Riders and horses accrue miles on the trails and have the opportunity to earn year end awards for enjoying their horse and the great outdoors.

TRAP annual award categories:

High Mile Adult Rider

High Mile Youth Rider

High Mile Horse

Members are presented at designated mile levels and will accumulate each year. Members will receive prizes at the following milestones:

Initial 50 miles

150 miles

Every 250 miles thereafter

Double hours can be earned at NWHA sanctioned trail rides and Best of America By Horseback (BOABH) designated rides/events!

TRAP participants must be a member no later than April 1st to count their miles from December 1st (Log Start Date). Members joining after April 1st will only be able to accumulate miles from the date of their membership purchase. Patches will be sent out with the first and second set of awards by the committee Chair or designee. The third (year-end) awards will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet. Please read the TRAP SOP below for full details and log due dates.
